Darkroom Printing:
The darkroom has three Besler 23cii enlargers (set up for 35mm-120mm) and one Omega D2 Condenser enlarger (set up for 120mm or 4x5). Available easels are 8x10, 4-in-1, and adjustable blade 11x14 easels. Each station has a glass contact printing frame, grain focuser, and multi-contrast filters. Dodging/burning tools and paper safes are available as well. Prints up to 16x20 can be accommodated. (If printing 16x20 please discuss first) Additionally, there are archival washers, drying screens and an 11x14 heat press. Chemistry is mixed, tested and ready for you.
Film Development:
Reels (35mm and 120mm), tanks, and a light tight closet are available. Two 4x5 tanks with 23 holders each are available as well. Film air dries.
Alternative Processes:
Please discuss with us. Coating table, exposure box and a light tight drying area are available.
White Light Lounge:
A white light workroom is available with a large worktable, light tables, and a couch if you need to chill while waiting on drying or washing.
About Us
As I recall… it was day 3 at my new house in Oak Cliff, when I met my next door neighbor, fittingly titled the “Mayor of Elmweird”. After learning I was a darkroom photographer, she darted into her house, returning with a dusty box of cameras, photography books, and darkroom developing equipment. As it turns out the original owner, that built the house in 1950, was a photographer with a home darkroom.
Seventy years later, once again a darkroom is up and running; however, this time, this little darkroom comes with an invitation for the community to come on over and create together.
Fees & Services
Darkroom Rental:
To use the darkroom you must have completed an orientation or a darkroom printing class.
Sunday-Saturday: 10am-9pm
Full Day (8hrs)
$50/ day use, shared space
$60/ day use, entire darkroom to yourself
Half Day (4 hrs)
$30/ day use, shared space
$40/ day use, entire darkroom to yourself
